Story Through Repetition
Telling a deep story through a medium that relies heavily on luck and randomness, a medium where you have to repeat the same part over and over again, is a difficult challenge. I’m talking about roguelike games, or even rogue-lite games, where after each run, the player will have some progresses toward a certain goal. This is one of the challenges for Supergiant Games in developing their game, Hades. Hades is a hack-and-slash roguelike game where players play as Zagreus, son of Hades, God of the Underworld, who’s trying to get out of his home, hell.
